Ale is a type of beer brewed using a warm fermentation method using Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This style typically lends more yeast expression resulting in fruity taste and aroma in finished beer, while also having more complex and robust characters. Use one of White Labs pure liquid ale yeast to achieve optimal, high-quality results.


Lager is a type of beer that is fermented and conditioned at low temperatures using Saccharomyces pastorianus, normally in cold-temperature controlled vessels at the brewery. While the flavor characteristics are usually described as crisp, clean and refreshing, the beers may be pale, golden, amber or dark in appearance.

Specialty / Belgian

White Labs’ Belgian yeast and specialty strains are perfectly cultivated for fermenting pale lagers to lambic beers, Flemish reds and more. This lineup includes a selection of strains that are ideal for producing a range of Belgian styles, which are deeply rooted in the country’s historical aspects and traditions.

Wild Yeast & Bacteria

Wild yeast and bacteria may be used for brewing, winemaking and distilling. These strains lend a wide range of unique, specific tastes and aromas, such as acidity, barnyard funk and earthy notes.

Wine / Mead / Cider

Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from fermented grapes or other fruits. Due to its natural chemical balance, grapes are able to ferment without the addition of sugars, acids, enzymes, water or other nutrients. Use one of these White Labs strains to ferment styles ranging from traditional red and white varietals to sparkling wines, ciders or meads.


A distilled beverage, spirit, liquor, hard liquor or hard alcohol is an alcoholic beverage produced through distillation of a mixture produced from alcoholic fermentation. This process purifies it and removes diluting components like water, for the purpose of increasing its proportion of alcohol content (also known as alcohol by volume or ABV).

The Vault for Professionals

A collection of specialty strains curated during the more than 22 years White Labs has been in business. All strains from The Vault are available to professionals year-round via Custom Pour packaging and must have a minimum order of 1.5L for most strains (1L for wild yeast and bacteria) and a 17-30 day production lead time.


The Vault Seasonal Release

A collection of specialty strains curated during the more than 22 years White Labs has been in business. Retailers may obtain select strains for their homebrew shops through The Vault Seasonal Release program, which provides two unique, specialty strains available for ordering every two months.

The Vault for Homebrewers

A collection of specialty strains curated during the more than 22 years White Labs has been in business. Homebrewers may purchase select strains directly from participating homebrew shops that offer The Vault Seasonal Releases. Additionally, White Labs is rebuilding The Yeast Vault pre-ordering feature, and this will debut in the coming months.

In the meantime, when we produce a Vault yeast for professional breweries, we package the additional yeast into homebrew vials. Just go to, click yeast and look under Stores for the green un-locked Vault strains. If you find one, it means we have un-locked the Vault and that strain is in stock and available for order! Or, ask your Store to add it to their next order.
