White Labs Kitchen & Tap Now Open!
Have you heard the latest news from White Labs? We are thrilled to (finally!) announce the opening of White Labs Kitchen & Tap, our first restaurant venture featuring fermented food and beverages. Beginning October 19, you will be able to visit our newest project, located in downtown Asheville adjacent to our eastern U.S. production facility, and enjoy woodfired pizzas, house-made fermented sauces, farm-fresh salads and other beer-infused dishes and desserts.
All pizza dough made at White Labs Kitchen & Tap is slow-risen and baked using our very own pure liquid yeast cultures. We felt it would be very fitting and necessary to bring this special ingredient into the pizza-dough recipe since historically, brewers and bakers would rely on one another for yeast used in brewing or baking. What’s that you ask...“Why open a restaurant if you’re all about yeast and fermentation?” Let’s cue a few words from our illustrious leader--White Labs CEO, president and founder Chris White--to help answer that:
“This is our first venture into food, and we’re excited to explore it from a perspective we know a lot about--fermentation! When developing plans for White Labs Asheville, we wanted to recreate a similar experience that is offered in our Boulder and San Diego Tasting Rooms with the addition of food. My vision is for White Labs Kitchen & Tap to be a fun and appetizing way for the general public to explore the complex world of yeast and fermentation.”
Among our many fermented beverage options, White Labs beers will be served in addition to cocktails and wine. Much like our San Diego and Boulder Tasting Room, you’ll have the opportunity to do side-by-side comparisons of the same base beer fermented with various yeast strains, thanks to our talented Brewing Team, a 24-hectoliter brewhouse and 16 six-hectoliter fermenter tanks located in our San Diego headquarters. The beers we’ll pour highlight the differences in flavor and aroma created by our various yeast strains. With 28 rotating taps, we’re thrilled to also showcase a nice selection of guests beers, including five collaborations that were brewed prior to opening with our local friends at Mad Co. Brewing, Urban Orchard Cider, Hi-Wire Brewing, Burial Beer Co. and Bhramari Brewing Company.
Plus, our tour program is now in full swing! You will have an opportunity to walk through our production facility, learn about the science of fermentation and how White Labs manufactures pure liquid yeast for the brewing, wine and spirits industries. Public tours are available daily at 3 p.m., and spots may be reserved by signing up at the restaurant’s host stand.
White Labs Kitchen & Tap is located at 172 South Charlotte Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
