Brewing/Tasting Room

Assistant Brewer

Summary: Under general direction of the Brewing Manager, the Assistant Brewer is responsible for producing wort for yeast propagation in addition to brewing beer for sale and consumption in the White Labs Tasting Room.

Essential Functions & Duties

  • Operates all brewing equipment to produce wort that meets specifications for yeast propagation.
  • Responsible for full cycle brewing process and operation of brewing equipment for beer production.
  • Monitors fermentation, notifying management of any concerns or issues.
  • Kegs finished beer for sale in Tasting Room.
  • Performs daily clean up and maintenance of brewery area.
  • Performs CIP on all brewing equipment/fermenters as required.
  • Assists with additional tasks as required by Brewing/Production department.

The ideal candidate will have the following combination of skills and experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year of experience working in a brewery, preferably in a brewing/production capacity.
  • Forklift certification a plus.
  • Works well independently and cooperatively with others.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate production needs, including occasional weekend work.

Physical Demands
Time spent conducting sedentary work is less than 10%. Requires walking, standing, kneeling, bending and reaching for more than 90% of the workday. Lifting objects in excess of 100 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing 50 pounds or more.

Tasting Room Associate

Summary: The Tasting Room Associate is responsible for delivering an exceptional experience to all guests of our ​Boulder, CO tasting room. Additionally, this role is responsible primarily for serving, setting-up, and clean-up of all tasting room functions. This is a part time position that will be scheduled for 1 shift per week, with additional shifts scheduled periodically.

Essential functions and duties:

- Greets guests entering and exiting in a friendly and courteous manner

- Take beverage orders, provide beverage information, serve beer, & collect money for drinks served.

- Check identification of customers to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol.

- Conducts daily cleaning of bar, utensils, glassware and floors as required.

- Additional duties as assigned by Tasting Room Manager.

Facilities

Facilities Manager

Summary: The Facilities Manager manages and assists in the completion of the day-to-day activities involving the maintenance of the building/facility, equipment and machinery, including HVAC, building lighting systems, grounds keeping, security and overall facility appearance. This is a hands on position that also supervises and coordinates the work of employees who repair and maintain building/facility, equipment and machinery.

Essential Functions & Duties

  • Performs and/or directs the performance of all maintenance departmental service requests, ensuring that the work performed in these areas is accomplished efficiently, neatly, safely and in accordance with established standards.
  • Manages departmental staff, including selection, scheduling and job assignments; counseling, appraisals and recognition; recommending salary, promotional, disciplinary, termination and other personnel actions.
  • Assists with equipment layout and installation plans for additional equipment and production capacity.
  • Develops and maintains a preventative maintenance schedule program for applicable equipment and machinery.
  • Trains facilities staff as well as operator level employees on basic preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Arranges for, and manages appropriate third-party contractor support as needed.
  • Maintains and acts as point of contact for facilities related vendor contracts.
  • Prepares budgets and secures estimates and cost quotes as needed.
  • Enforces sound safety and housekeeping practices.
  • Ensures completion of maintenance work in accordance with established standards and in compliance with safety regulations and building codes.
  • Oversees preparation and filing of periodic reports with government/regulatory authorities including environmental permitting.
  • Acts as safety champion for all manufacturing areas.
  • Additional duties and projects as assigned by VP of Operations.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • BA/BS in engineering, Facilities Management or related field.
  • Certification in Facilities Management a plus.
  • Experience through technical education and hands-on-experience in the following disciplines:
    • HVAC design and engineering
    • Electrical design and engineering
    • Plumbing design and engineering
    • Excellent leadership and managerial skills and desire to train, supervise and lead maintenance staff and contractors.
    • Computer literate including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and maintenance management systems (Netsuite).
    • Strong customer service focus and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with regulatory agencies, vendors, contractors, tenants and employees.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of facility management, plant operations, engineering, or maintenance supervision experience.
  • Commercial brewery related experience highly preferred.
  • Project management experience strongly preferred.

 

Physical Demands

Heavy work: Employee typically shares workstation with others in similar positions. Time spent conducting sedentary work is less than 25%. Requires walking, standing, squatting, bending, reaching and/or driving for more than 75% of the workday. Laboratory

Yeast Lab Technician I

Summary: The Yeast Laboratory Technician is responsible for the high-standard quality control measures involved with yeast propagation, including sterile yeast handling, cell counting, media preparation and experimental protocol.

Essential Functions & Duties

  • Starts and transfers lab-scale yeast propagation cultures.
  • Performs aseptic sampling of yeast & wild yeast/bacteria propagations and various stages throughout the production cycle.
  • Conducts quality control testing on all yeast and bacteria produced ensuring that it is free from contamination.
  • Performs cell counts on yeast cultures
  • Performs intermediate data entry into Netsuite.
  • Assists with, and helps to resolve customer complaints related to yeast and wild yeast/bacteria QC.
  • Maintains overall Yeast Lab cleanliness.
  • Performs plate reading and clears yeast & bacteria for packaging.
  • Assists in preparation of lab supplies and consumables.
  • Assists in the training of Lab Assistants and/or interns.
  • Performs additional tasks or projects as assigned.

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelors degree in Biology or other science related field required.
  • 0-1 year of laboratory bench work experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal daily oversight.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Experience with inventory tracking software a plus.

 

Physical Demands

Medium work:  Employee may, or may not, have a workstation or office.  Time spent conducting sedentary work is less than 50%.  Requires walking, standing and/or driving for more than 50% of the workday.  Lifting 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.  Must have adequate vision to use a microscope and adequate hand dexterity for using pipettes and cell culture tools.
