Testing
Services
LS6610
Sample Analysis for Breweries (Micro)
Includes: WLN, WLD, LCSM, LWYM, HLP, SDA testing. Also includes Gram
stain and identification of contaminants present
LS6110
Lab Service: WLN Plates Wallerstein Nutrient plates without cycloheximide
For
the cultivation of yeast, molds and bacteria. Containing a pH
indicator dye (bromocresol green), WLN plates allow everything to
growth, including brewing yeast. Different yeast strains take
up the dye differently, allowing some differentiation between
brewing strains. Recommended use in conjunction with LS6120:
WLD plates to detect and identify brewery contaminants.
LS6120
Lab Service: WLD Wallerstein Differential plates with
cycloheximide
Wallerstein media with the addition of
cycloheximide to suppress the growth of brewers yeast and mold,
isolating the bacteria and wild yeast species found in brewing.
In addition, WL media allows for the easy detection of
acid-secreting bacteria, such as lactic acid bacteria and acetic
acid bacteria, via its bromcresol green pH indicator component.
LS6200
Lab Service: LWYM Wild Yeast detection
For detection of Saccharomyces-type
wild yeast. Formulated with crystal violet to inhibit, or markedly
restrict, growth of brewery culture yeast while permitting growth of
a variety of wild yeast.
LS6210
Lab Service: LCSM Wild yeast detection
For detection and quantitative
determination of wild yeast populations, or non-Saccharomyces
species of wild yeast, in brewing. Media uses cupric sulfate
to inhibit the growth of brewers yeast cultures.
LS6300
Lab Service: HLP Anaerobic Test
This medium is used to check for the presence of Gram-positive
lactic acid bacteria, Lactobacillus and Pediococcus.
These bacteria are anaerobic, heat-resistant, and alcohol- and
pH-tolerant, making them common beer spoilers.
LS6500
Microscope Analysis
Includes: analysis of sample viability, dead cell count, detection
of abnormal cells, description of cell morphology, condition of cell
membrane, detection of amorphous matter and condition of protoplasm.

Testing Programs
QC Day
Big QC Day, which began in 2007, is the only
large-scale, independent testing of craft beer. Brewers learn about
their beers and quality control issues at an affordable cost. The
tests provide a picture of the status of craft beer in general. Includes:
Wild yeast test, aerobic bacteria test, anaerobic bacteria test,
beer color, IBU, density, alcohol by volume, extract, % attenuation,
calories, pH, and total VDK (diacetyl). Breweries
can compare their tests against the overall results of the test
group. The cost includes free shipping for domestic clients. For
more information visit the Big QC Day
Resource Center.
"Build Your Own" QC Program
We
are implementing a "Build
Your Own" Brewery QC Program.
The program is designed to encourage routine testing in breweries
and allows brewers to select 3 tests from 6 that we offer in
any combination for a discounted price. They can participate one
time or quarterly; quarterly
subscriptions are offered at a discount.
White Labs MiniFerment™
Fermentation Trials (LS3500)
Test fermentation speed, flavor profile, new
ingredients, and new recipes- easily. White
Labs’ MiniFerment process can utilize as little as 2 liters of
wort, and replicate large scale batches. We
can even use your own wort. These
tests provide reliable data about your beers, such as optimal
aeration levels, fermentation temperatures, pH levels, and pitching
rates. It is also an ideal way to test multiple yeast strains on the
same wort. Beer
analysis, including gas chromatography, can be added to the
analysis. For more
information, contact our sales staff at 1-888-5-YEAST-5 or visit here.
Siebel
